Band/Guard - 1/25/21

Welcome to the Norte Vista Band and Colorguard blog! Here's a space to get caught up on events, announcements, reminders, and more.

Last week in Advanced, Intermediate, and Marching band we worked on Joy a little more, and also took some time to sight read new pieces to keep us sharp, in addition to rhythm reading. The percussion worked more on the green book exercises, and the guard . For marching band we also broke out into different sections to work on section projects to get to know the other sections more. This friday is also when recording assignment #1 is due on google classroom, which includes the rhythm sheet, joy recording, and Bb scale.

(here the winds are working on sight reading with videos together, and taking time to break down any harder rhythms during Tuesday's rehearsal)

(here the percussion is taking turns playing the exercises, while everyone else plays along during their breakout)

Announcements for this week:

  • Remember to turn in recording assignment #1 in google classroom this friday

  • Also remember to complete the friday check in and turn it in before 12:00pm to avoid being marked absent

  • For those in marching band continue to work on the section presentations, and remember to have fun with them!

These are miniature shoutouts to those students who work hard to improve and help others. ICU’s are a way for other students and leaders to recognize them for the effort they put in. Keep up the great work! These will be posted on the @novi_band_guard instagram in addition to being posted on the weekly blogs starting next week.

David H. - “Even though he doesn't have an instrument yet, he is still super attentive to class, and gladly participates when he can. I’m super happy to see him still finding ways to get better and learn.”

Samantha C. - “She always has a good attitude and always takes and applies feedback. She is super observant and is always looking for ways to help things run smoothly. In addition to that she also took on more responsibility and she continues to help us all improve the band with her feedback.”

Anita S - “During our breakouts and meetings she always looks to interact with everyone and looks forward to working with others, and improving in guard.”

These individuals have been doing a great job, and continue to improve everyday, great job to all of you, keep it up!

Student interview:

Well also be having student interviews! This is a way for parents to understand a students perspective better considering no one really needs any more stress with this pandemic. It's also a way to get to know some of the characters that we have in the band and guard at Novi.
